"My mum isn't a normal mum she'd say, but then, what is normal?" This loving son has his very own Humpty Dumpty.

Transcript

"My Mum isn't a normal Mum she'd say, but then, what is normal?

Unlike many other parents my Mum can't take part in any physical activities because she has a muscle wasting disease you see, popping pill after pill in the mornings, she could give a pharmacy a run for its money ... and yet you wouldn't think it to look at her.

Even though this disease affects her body, her mental strength is a cut above the rest, she's always at the forefront of her game.

Struggling in her work at a hairdressing salon, she left for the freelance option, to work at her own pace, although she seems to work more hours now than ever before!

Never putting herself first either, always ready to listen to my troubles, from bullying in school to getting settled in university.

My Mum's my very own humpty dumtpy, and sometimes she does fall off the wall, but she always climbs back up, independent and stronger than ever.

She bravely faces her uphill struggle, but I want her to know that she is not alone, I'm with her every step of the way."

An interview with the author

Please tell us about yourself. I come from Barry town and enjoy many things that relate to the media - from production to viewing. I love watching films and now making them feeds my passion more.

What's your story about? It's about the relationship between myself and my mother who - despite having a muscle wasting disease - has helped me through my life's trials and tribulations.

Why did you choose to tell this particular story? This is the first memory, the strongest memory I have, and my mum is very important to me and not only helps me myself but other people too.

What did you find the most rewarding about the workshop? The entire workshop was a learning curve - from the different skills learnt to the people met - everything has been rewarding.
