"He was planning to go to University, but the car crash changed all that." Jordan recently discovered his dad suffered brain damage years ago.

Transcript

"We hear about car crashes more or less everyday but not many people stop to think how those that are involved are affected and how dramatically their lives can be turned upside down.

Roughly twenty years ago my father was involved in a car accident, the strange this is I never really knew for most of my life, and to be honest I wouldn't have guessed he has a head injury. But looking back at photographs taken before the accident it shocks me to see how much he's changed. He was planning to go to University and he was just starting a family, and the crash changed all that.

My dad can be quite annoying and he's always finding new ways to do it. Even though his injury makes it hard for him to remember things I can't help feel irritated by him when he calls me by my brothers' name and forgets things I've only just told him.

I think a lot about how our family might have been better off if the crash hadn't happened. It's quite upsetting to think how Dad can't work because of his injury and how Mam can't work either because she has to take care of him. It's hard for him and us to see him struggle. When I look back and think how happy we've been over the years I know it's not that bad.

Yeah, he can be annoying, and yeah he can be embarrassing but I suppose that's just part of being a parent. Even though I didn't know him as he was I know him as he is now and I wouldn't change him for anything."
