Two years ago Krystal Porter never dreamed that she would have a beautiful little daughter who would become the apple of her eye. In fact 20 year old Krystal from Cheshunt in Hertfordshire didn't even think she'd be alive today if it wasn't for the Herts Young ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖless Group. She says, "I was becoming homeless. I had to leave my mums property because she didn't want me living there. So I went to the council….and they said they couldn't help me but advised me to come here." ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Three Counties Radio reporter Toby Friedner visited the Group in Cheshunt to find out more. Listen to the Charity's workers, as they explain how the money you raise is vital to help young people who, often through no fault of their own, find themselves homeless.

The group works with young people aged 16 - 25 who are at risk of becoming homeless. Their network of support workers offer counselling, information and advice and help to people with drug and alcohol problems.
| Becca Sapsford |
Becca Sapsford, who is one of the information and advice workers, explains how £75,000 has been spent over three years - money they received from Children in Need. "We were able to fund a specific youth worker to work with sixteen and seventeen year olds. If the money wasn't available then we wouldn't have been able to fund the post so those four hundred people, helped so far, wouldn't have been able to get the support they have" said Becca. But for Krystal the help she received was more than just putting a roof over her head. She told us: "For the future I wanted to settle down and have a family and that was my main goal, and fortunately I have…..if it wasn't for Herts Young ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖless I wouldn't be here on this planet today." This is just one example of how the money was spent locally last year. This is just one example of a local project being supported by money you raise for Children in Need. If you would like to donate to this year's appeal there are lots of different ways you can give. |
