Help playing audio/video Workers at the Teesside Cast Products plant were told the news on Friday 8 May, and the 90 day consultation has now started. Owner Corus says this development's become "unavoidable" because of the termination of a contract by four international steel slab buyers.
Help playing audio/video Corus had agreed to sell a majority stake in the plant to the consortium led by Italian firm Marcegaglia, but the steel giant said the consortium had "unilaterally and unreasonably" initiated moves to terminate the contract, making Redcar "unviable."
