We Are TeessideYou are in: Tees > People > We Are Teesside > County Durham is Passing GO County Durham does Monopoly County Durham is Passing GOThere's already a Middlesbrough version of Monopoly, and now County Durham is joining the list of places to have their own version of the game. Everyone knows the traditional London streets from the game... But soon you'll be able to see landmarks such as Durham Castle and Durham County Cricket Club replacing the likes of Mayfair and Park Lane, as Monopoly comes to our area! The aim is to highlight how Darlington is the home of the railway by dedicating spaces on the board celebrating the significance of railways in the county, but there's room on the board for other local favourites too... Durham County Council's Cabinet Member for Tourism and Economic Regeneration听 Councillor Neil Foster, says:听听 "Generations of people have enjoyed playing Monopoly and it's fantastic for County Durham to be now recognised in this world famous game, it shows that the county is acknowledged as a very special part of the country. "We have a lot to offer from the World Heritage site of the Cathedral and Castle to a museum that has been hailed as 'the treasure house of the North'. "I hope people get as much enjoyment playing the game as they do visiting our famous attractions."听 But the places on the board are not set in stone, in fact there's still one spot that hasn't been allocated yet... that of the highly sought after top slot on the board, Mayfair, has been opened up to a public vote! There are other spaces that have been opened up for the public to vote on too, so if you have a favourite place in County Durham that you'd like to see on the board, make sure you get your vote in before Thursday 30 April 2009.
