"I moved to the USA when I was 23 and now live in California with my wife and two children." "My Dad Alan Ludley was the singer in 60s and 70s bands, The Denmen and River’s Invitation’ along with well known local musicians Ray Dales, Raymond Johns, Peter Ayton, Merv Jones, Paul Rhucroft and Alan Fearnley. "Tragically, he died in a car crash when I was just one year old and I was brought up by my grandparents. "I had never heard my father singing and have been searching for recordings nearly all of my life. "I was aware that at some point Rivers Invitation recorded a song called 'Seasons in the Sun' - the record company dropped the song and gave it to Terry Jacks, which later became a worldwide number one - so I got in touch with John Foster asking if he could help with my search. "After many calls, emails and help from listeners, he managed to track down a copy of The Denmen song ‘Marcie’. "It was on an old quarter inch reel to reel tape that had been forgotten in an old tin box in Peter Ayton’s house, and although we managed to listen to a couple of tracks, both with Alan singing, the tape was really fragile and needs restoring, and unfortunately it seems the elusive ‘Seasons in the Sun’ wasn't on there either." Can you help?Have you a long lost recording of Alan singing ‘Seasons in the Sun’? If so, email tees@bbc.co.uk with your contact details. last updated: 03/07/07 You are in: Tees > We Are Teesside > Features > A lost treasure |
