Masterplan for Tees valley regeneration

Looking into the future of Stockton?

The new face of Stockton

As Tees Valley Regeneration unveils the plans for the regeneration of Stockton, we want to know what you think about the proposed homes, offices and leisure facilities.

The 56 acre plot running along River Tees will feature more than 650,000 sq ft of office accommodation, 25,000 sq ft of leisure spaces as well as 480 residential units.

Not only will the area look different, the project will also bring some 2500 permanent jobs to the region.

"This is a scheme that will not only raise the bar in terms of design and quality but one that will increase both commercial interest and values."

Joe Docherty, chief executive of Tees Valley Regeneration

The plans also include traffic improvements that will come in handy for everyone in Stockton, even though the road works may be causing aggravation at the moment.

With the 拢18 million public investment into the project, the expectations are high. Joe Docherty, chief executive of Tees Valley Regeneration says:

鈥淭his is a scheme that will not only raise the bar in terms of design and quality but one that will increase both commercial interest and values.鈥

Iconic bridges and urban design

With what the designers say are the 鈥渉ighest standards of urban design鈥, an eye-catching, iconic bridge will connect North Shore with Teesdale, making it easier for pedestrians and cyclist to get around.

The design director at Benoy Architects and Masterplanners, Mike MacCormack explains the thought process behind the planning of the masterplan.

"One of the biggest assets for North Shore is its size and close proximity to the town centre. So we had to ask ourselves - how do we connect it to the town, so that pedestrians can move between and make the best of the two areas. The solution is a series of broad, attractively landscaped boulevards for pedestrians."

The scheme will be delivered in four stages over approximately eight years with phase one expected to begin in 2006.

What are your thoughts on the these improvements? Will they be an improvement for you? Let us know what you think!

A band-aid on a cancer patient. How many 拢1 shops can you fit into the new development?

In the Stockton Council area it is like the Victorian era where a lot of shoddy buildings were erected as quickly as possible and turned into slums within a few years. Near Stockton town centre next to the A66 there is a hideous bright blue block of flats which will obviously look dilapidated quite quickly. I think we will regret all this so called regeneration especially on all the lost greenbelt land!!
