Video summary

'Murder Games: The Life and Death of Breck Bednar', tells the true story of Breck Bednar, a 14-year-old boy who was lured to his death after being groomed online. In this final part, Breck鈥檚 mum Lorin speaks to 成人快手 Radio 5 live and to a group of school children about online grooming and internet safety.

Although Breck鈥檚 story is an extreme example, there are plenty of people online who may have hidden agendas, and you never really know who you are talking to.

Breck鈥檚 friends knew about online safety, but they still found themselves targets.

It can be hard to spot grooming, so you can never take too many precautions online.

Teacher Notes

Students could divide into small groups, and spend a few minutes making a list of the types of places where online grooming might occur, before feeding back to the class.

You could remind your students of the NSPCC's definition of grooming.

Students could think of reasons why age ratings exist, and why it鈥檚 not a good idea to play games which are not age appropriate.

This clip will be relevant for teaching PSHE and computing at KS3 and KS4 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and National 4 and 5 in Scotland.
