Interviewer:
I'm here behind the scenes at the Strictly Come Dancing studio, just in time for Halloween. Now down there, the dancers are preparing their spellbinding moves, ready for the show. But Halloween would not be complete without some spine tingling sounds and some spooky music.

[ROARS].
Interviewer:
Who better to help me with that than the Strictly Come Dancing band. I'm gonna see if I can track them down.
Interviewer:
Hello everybody.
Band members:
Hi!
Interviewer:
You are just the people I've been looking for. That sounded wonderful and pretty spooky, but I've got a challenge for you; do you think you could make it any spookier?
Band members:
Yeah!
Interviewer:
Ooh! I wonder which instrument can make the creepiest, spookiest sound. Let's find out.
Interviewer:
Now Dave, how do you make the keyboard sound spooky?
Dave:
Well good question, um, here's my piano sound, so maybe I can go鈥
Interviewer:
Whoa! Nice pitch bend there, I like that, yes.
Dave:
What do you think?
Interviewer:
I love it, yeah that's spooky [LAUGHS].
Interviewer:
Hi Millie.
Millie:
Hi.
Interviewer:
Now, can you make haunting sounds with your violin?
Millie:
Well let's start with something like this.
Interviewer:
Uh, what is that technique called?
Millie:
So they're called harmonics, I just slide my finger up and down, create the noise.
Interviewer:
The different notes.
Millie:
Yeah.
Interviewer:
Thank you so much Millie.
Millie:
Thanks.
Interviewer:
Now, moving on to our petrifying percussionists, Chris and Jodie. Chris, you've got a beautiful xylophone here, what spooky sounds can you make?
Chris:
Xylophone, well it's a pretty scary instrument.
Interviewer:
That makes me think of skeletons that does, yeah that is the sound isn't it [LAUGHS].
Chris:
Yeah, skeleton in the cupboard.
Interviewer:
And what other percussion sound?
Chris:
Dave's always trying to get hold of this 'cause he thinks it's a lollipop.
Interviewer:
OH wow, that really is a haunting sound with a tasty looking instrument too. [LAUGHS] And now Jodie, you also play percussion.
Jodie:
Yes.
Interviewer:
What spooky sounds can you play for us?
Jodie:
This is called a waterphone and it's got water in it. [LAUGHS].
Interviewer:
That is really scary. Wow! That has to be my favourite so far, the waterphone. That is spooky.
Interviewer:
Hi there John.
John:
Hi Yolanda.
Interviewer:
Now, tell me about the gruesome guitar, what sounds can you make on this?
John:
Got this which is the bottleneck, which is like the top of a bottle.
Interviewer:
Wow! That is scary.
Interviewer:
Hi Andy.
Andy:
Hello Yolanda.
Interviewer:
Now, I know that you can make some funny sounds on the tuba.
Andy:
You can.
Interviewer:
Let's have a listen.
Andy:
Well there's one technique called flutter tonguing, where it's where you roll your tongue and go, make the sound [ROLLS TONGUE].
Interviewer:
[ROLLS TONGUE].
Andy:
That's, that's the one, so we could go鈥
Interviewer:
I have heard that before, that is very scary.
Andy:
Which is quite scary.
Interviewer:
Oh fantastic, thank you so much Andy.
Andy:
Thank you, my pleasure.
Interviewer:
So last but by no means least, we've got our spooktastic singer, Tommy. Now what ghostly sounds can you make?
Tommy:
[EVIL LAUGH].
Interviewer:
[EVIL LAUGH]. I can really feel myself using different parts of my throat to do all of that.
Tommy:
Yeah, you have to tighten up this bit to get the high ones and completely the opposite to get the low ones.
Interviewer:
Wow, technique, spooky technique.
Interviewer:
Now, we've rehearsed all of our spooky sounds, how about we put it together with the music. Mind if I join in?
Band members:
Yeah!
Interviewer:
Yes!
Tommy:
[SINGING] Incy Wincy spider climbed up the water spout, down came the rain and washed the spider out. Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain, Incy Wincy spider climbed up鈥 the spout again.
