Arfon Roberts was my father and was the first reporter to broadcast from Aberfan. I remember hearing his poingnent report on the radio at my school in Cardiff. He was the senior news producer at 成人快手 Radio Wales then at the request of Harold Williams set up, first the News Room at 成人快手 Radio Merseyside then at Radio Stoke. I remember going out on reports with him when school was on holiday - everything from an interview with a pig farmer to his presentation of "Knockout Brass". I also remember going out on some of those OB's from local churches - helping the station engineer Simon rig the microphones to the amazing Ford Cortina Estate Radio Car. Dad coped to struggle with memories of Aberfan - he spent days alternating digging with broadcasting, eventually retiring early to his beloved North Wales. Radio Stoke was a wonderland for me as the "youngest reporter" and seeing these pictures brings back those fond memories of friendly professionals.
