Sworn to Oath

Sworn To Oath

With an E.P due to be released, loads of gigs under their belt, Stoke-based metal band Sworn To Oath have made plans to establish their place on the music map. Zoey investigates..

Sworn To Oath are now up and running, and I tried to become their newest member. They insisted I had to pay a £10 joining fee, so I settled for interviewer instead…

Sworn For The Big Time

After jumping over sofas resulting in laddered tights and bribing the band with Haribo, my coverage of Sworn To Oath’s Sugarmill send off gig, before they went on their Summer Of '09 mini-tour, looked set to be eventful.

As I watched them on stage, all I wanted to do was join the rest of the crowd rocking out to the tracks, but with a ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ camera in hand, I opted against it.

Sworn to Oath

Thumbs up from Tom for the Sugarmill gig

The local based threesome stormed on stage to rapturous applause. With their metal hairdos and beards galore they definitely look the part, (I over heard Dave say before the gig that he’d shaved his beard especially for the night!)

The send off gig, on 8 August, was to kick off their mini tour, stopping off at London, Bournemouth, Wales and various venues in the Midlands. If their first night was anything to go by audiences everywhere are in for an intense treat.

ÌýSaturday night

Back to Saturday night. I got inside the venue with my ‘artist’ wristband (which I was secretly excited about, as it was the closest thing I was ever going to get to being in a band!) and waited for Tom, Dave and Al to find me. A few minutes later they arrived with Subway in hand, trying to have a sneaky look at my questions.

Sworn to Oath drumskin

Al Jrs bloodstained drum skin! A fiver!

After signing a bloodied, messed up drum skin to sell for £5 as merch, Sworn To Oath went to the roof to get the interview underway before their soundcheck.

Even with their cheeky one-liners, the lads were like seasoned pro’s at interviewing and even managed not to swear (which they thought they couldn’t do!)

They revealed stories behind their trusty band-mobile, the 'Van Halen', and how John the roadie/merch guy nearly fell out. Plus theyÌý let me into the ethos of what they do on tour. Wanna hear more? You can by watching the video (link at the top of the page).

Stormed on stage

8 o'clock and it was time to hit the stage. Fans, family and friends were waiting when Sworn To Oath stormed the Sugarmill.

After Tom’s opening lines the lads let loose to show what they are made of. Their whole set, with slamming riffs, huge power chords and lighting proved that they aren’t messing around. These lads are set for big things.
