After breaking Janine Whitlock鈥檚 4.47m height in June 2009, Dennison has since smashed it taking the record up to 4.57m with her best vault yet in the Birmingham trials 2009.

Dennison was born in Durban, South Africa on the 7th of May 1984 and her family moved to Alsager when she was four. With a sporting family Dennison took up gymnastics but later found that Pole Vault was more to her liking taking it up in 2000.听

After studying psychology at Staffordshire University, Dennison went professional with the Pole Vault moving to Loughborough to be coached by Steven Rippon.

Achievements

Her natural talent for the sport shone through when Kate became the first British junior to vault over 4 metres at the World Junior Championships in 2002.

Kate's best results include finishing 7th in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006, and she has also tasted gold when she triumphed at the UK Championships in Manchester in 2007.

She qualified for the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and despite being knocked-out of the competition before the pole vault final she set a personal best.

2009 has been a landmark year for Kate. She broke the British pole vault record six times, finishing sixth in the World Championships in Berlin, and sixth in the European Athletics Indoor Championships, in Italy.

She is Britain's best hope of winning a women's pole vault gold in the London 2012 Olympics but knows that the competition will be stiff from the likes of World Record Holder Yelena Isinbayeva, and World Champion Anna Rogowska.
