Carl Fogarty

Carl Fogarty鈥檚 recognised as one of the kings of superbikes, after winning eight world titles including four World Superbike crowns. Foggy was forced to retire in 2000 due to injury and went on to run his own racing team based in Burton-on-Trent.

A fan鈥檚 favourite, Carl Fogarty started racing Superbikes in 1991 and landed the first of his four world titles in 1994. After injury forced him to give up racing he went into managing his own team Foggy Petronas Racing, which was based in Burton-on-Trent.

"It was just something I was good at. Whatever I did, I had to win, whether it was playing football at school or whatever, I was such a bad loser"

Carl Fogarty

He told 成人快手 Stoke that his racing career started from a very early age. He said, 鈥淢y father used to race, so I was around it all the time. I went to the race meetings with him, it鈥檚 just in the blood basically.鈥

鈥淎ll I ever wanted to do as a kid was race bikes and be world champion and, thankfully, it came true for me鈥

In all, he took part in more than 200 races before being he had to retire in 2000 after being involved in a crash 鈥 just a year after his last title.

And when asked which of his achievements meant the most to him, 鈥淔oggy鈥 plumps for the first time he won the Superbike World Title

鈥淥bviously winning the world title was the pinnacle, and I think probably the first one just shades it. When you win your first one of anything I guess it鈥檚 that little bit more special.鈥

鈥淣o matter what happens after that, that can鈥檛 be taken away from you. I think winning the first one in the circumstances in Australia in 1994 was very emotional鈥

In fact that first world title in 1994 went down to the wire, going into the last race

鈥淚deally I鈥檇 have loved to have won it earlier and have no pressure but, looking back, for people watching, on TV, the crowd and everything, you always want it to be down to the last round, to the last lap, last corner and it was pretty much down to that 鈥 to cross the line, knowing you were world champion, there鈥檚 no better feeling to be honest.鈥

Foggy Facts

Born: Blackburn, Lancashire 1965
Superbike Races: 219
Wins: 59
World Titles: 1994, 1995, 1998 and 1999
Retired: 2000

After retirement from racing, Carl's spell in team management with Foggy Petronas Racing was shortlived. The team, which was based in Burton Upon Trent, had difficulties in finding funding to secure its future. It was wound up in 2006, but Foggy is keen on getting back into management.

"Never say never. I'd certainly consider managing a team in Britain - I'm not into travelling around the world anymore - been there, done that. But running a British Superbike race team would appeal to me if it was the right bike and the right sponsor."
