Ross Whyte's men and Fay Henderson's women have been crowned Scottish curling champions for the first time after winning their respective finals at Dumfries Ice Bowl.

Team Henderson enjoyed a commanding 9-2 victory that denied Rebecca Morrison's holders a third consecutive title.

Whyte's rink, runners-up in 2022, needed an extra end to edge out Team Craik 7-6.

Losing skip James Craik also finished second in last year's event.

Whyte's team won all eight of their round-robin matches, including a 10-1 win over Team Craik, before also beating them 7-3 in the play-offs to qualify for the final.

Craik went on to lead his side to a thumping 9-1 win over Bruce Mouat's world champions to deny the Olympic silver medallists and reigning champions a record-breaking fifth Scottish title in six years.

Team Henderson never relinquished the lead after counting three at the opening end as they gained revenge for defeat by Morrison's rink in the 2022 women's final.

Team Morrison had also inflicted Henderson's only defeat of the round-robin by 7-4 earlier this week.

However, that could not prevent Team Henderson topping the round-robin and they also overcame Team Morrison in the play-offs 6-5 before both reached the final.
