Salford Red Devils have called a meeting of all Super League clubs to request an advance payment of money they were set to receive during the 2025 season to cover some holes in their finances.

Those gaps have been caused by uncertainty over the ownership of the Salford Community Stadium, the club said, with the Red Devils being prevented from going through with sponsorships and commercial opportunities.

There will be a league-wide vote to decide whether Salford will be given this money, with the clubs meeting again on Monday to make a decision.

"We鈥檙e grateful that our fellow clubs are considering our request and we are hopeful for a positive outcome on Monday," Salford's chief executive officer Paul King.

The Red Devils finished fourth during the 2024 Super League season, but despite that, they only came 12th in media giant IMG gradings system for next season.

The ratings measure five aspects - on-field performance, finance, community, fandom and stadium.

The club's financial position comes just two months after Salford City Council announced that they would take full ownership of the Salford Community Stadium, buying the 50% stake owned by The Peel Group.

That came after Salford had agreed a 12-month extension to their stadium lease for the venue they share with Premiership rugby side Sale Sharks.

A row over the eventual takeover of the stadium led to Salford Red Devils claiming in late 2023 that their future was at risk.

Despite those troubles, under head coach Paul Rowley's stewardship, the club were remarkably consistent on the field and comfortably wrapped up a place in the end-of-season play-offs.
