Hull KR's Lewis accuses Rouge of biting
Hull KR scrum-half Mikey Lewis accused Catalans Dragons full-back Cesar Rouge of biting him during Rovers鈥 convincing Magic Weekend win over the French side.
Lewis claimed Rouge bit his hand during the second half of an emphatic 36-4 triumph at Elland Road that lifted the title-chasing Robins back to the top of Super League.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just one of those things where I鈥檓 trying to look after Jez (Litten) and I鈥檓 trying to push him off," Lewis told Sky Sports.
鈥淢y hand has ended up inside of his mouth and he鈥檚 bitten down. It鈥檚 one of those, I鈥檓 trying to push him away.
鈥淩ugby league is a tough enough sport and to bite, it鈥檚 not in the game. I鈥檒l let the RFL do their bit and what will be will be. I鈥檒l just move on now.鈥
The matter will be investigated by the Rugby Football League, but Catalans head coach Steve McNamara strongly defended his player.
鈥淭hat needs looking at. It was two blokes standing and one puts his hand in the other bloke鈥檚 mouth and pushes down on it and moves him about," McNamara said.
鈥淵ou can鈥檛 have a biting allegation on that. That鈥檚 wrong.
鈥淐esar is pretty upset that he has been alleged to have done a bite. He has done nothing.
"He has stood there and someone has put his hand in his mouth. I鈥檇 be very surprised if any action is taken against Cesar.鈥
