Hull KR have the team to challenge for the Super League title given the level of recruitment Willie Peters has made for 2024, says new arrival Joe Burgess.

The former Wigan and Salford winger, who also had a stint in the National Rugby League in Australia, joined the Robins on Tuesday.

He joins England centre Oli Gildart, NRL title winner Tyrone May and New Zealand back Peta Hiku at Craven Park.

"They're definitely a top three, top two side," Burgess said.

"They've made some great signings, I've had the pleasure of playing at Old Trafford a few times and I know some of the boys haven't.

"I'm going to try my best to help them get there and for them to help me get a win as well."

The reasons for Burgess' exit from Salford after an internal investigation have not been disclosed, with the player expected to appeal against the verdict despite moving on.

However, any issues did not dissuade the Robins from targeting the England international, who along with his NRL and New South Wales Cup statistics, has 144 tries in 207 career games, and two Grand Final appearances.

Now he is looking forward to a first taste of the Hull derby in the season-opener on 15 February, having savoured the Wigan-St Helens rivalry during his time at the Cherry and Whites, and getting a good reception from the Rovers support.

"I am starting fresh again," Burgess told ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Humberside.

"I had a phone call with Willie Peters. He sung my praises, he said how much he wanted me and had wanted to sign me in the past, so it was a no-brainer.

"I know how good the fans are at KR as I've received many 'things' running down that wing off them. Hopefully I'm on the other side of it and they'll be shouting me down the wing."
