Greg Minikin's hat-trick helped bottom side Hull KR stun Super League leaders Wigan with a superb display.

Two tries apiece for Elliott Minchella and Minikin gave Rovers a 22-12 lead at the break, with Sam Powell and Harry Smith going over for Wigan.

Dean Hadley touched down before Minikin completed his treble to put Tony Smith's men 20 points in front.

Jackson Hastings barged over late on but it was scant consolation on a day that totally belonged to Hull KR.

The Robins went into the game without a win since the opening round of the season but their performance at Headingley belied their lowly position.

The Warriors, who had won every game since the restart, threatened to run away with it in the opening 15 minutes as they started brightly but Smith's men restricted them to a solitary try from Powell before completely turning the game, and the form table, on its head in six minutes.

Jez Litten broke through to tee up Minchella to level the scores and some quick passing ended with Minikin going over in the corner, before a lovely offload from Jordan Abdull let Minchella in again.

Smith reduced the arrears but Minikin went in for the second time right on the half-time hooter after some good work to keep the ball alive on the final play.

Abdull, whose kicking game was exemplary, was at the centre of things to set up Hadley and then Minikin's hat-trick score as the Robins dominated on both sides of the ball.

Hastings gave the Warriors a lifeline with 10 minutes remaining moments after Hull KR prop Shaun Kenny-Dowall had been sin-binned but Smith's team saw out the rest of the game to claim a brilliant win.
