Marc Sneyd kicked a golden point drop-goal as Hull FC edged out Wakefield Trinity, whose stirring second-half comeback came to nothing.

Mahe Fonua, Jamie Shaul and Kieran Buchanan scored tries in 13 first-half minutes as Hull led 20-6 at the break.

But Jay Pitts and Ryan Atkins then touched down to give Wakefield hope and Tom Johnstone went over twice in the corner late on to level it.

However, Sneyd's kick from 45 metres out dramatically clinched the points.

After defeats by St Helens, Wigan and Catalans Dragons, Hull's victory could reignite their faltering start to the season - but it came after a nailbiting finish.

Atkins' early opener for Wakefield proved a false dawn for the hosts, who found themselves at the eye of a Hull storm that saw them leak three quick tries, with Sneyd kicking well.

They rallied strongly, though, and Atkins' second of the night got them to within two points - only for Albert Kelly to stretch Hull's lead further.

Johnstone's spectacular finish reduced the deficit and he scored again with the clock ticking down. Crucially, though, neither was converted by Max Jowitt - and Sneyd had the final say.

Wakefield boss Chris Chester:

"It's heartbreaking really, with the effort we put in. It kind of summed us up. We continually let Hull back into games.

"It was a tale of two halves. We gave them a stern talking-to at half-time and they reacted well. We put ourselves in a position to kick on but came up with some poor tackle selection.

"I'm immensely proud of the efforts of our players who never give in but also really frustrated that Marc Sneyd has done us again with a one-pointer."

Hull FC head coach Lee Radford told 成人快手 Radio Humberside:

"We lost last week in very similar circumstances, so to come out on the other end, and show the fight that we did with the momentum going against us in that second half, I'm really pleased with how we didn't buckle.

"They'd have blown a lot of teams off the park in that second half. They're a very good side so credit to us for staying in there and getting a result. A really special effort.

"I love the fight, the never-say-die attitude that some of them have shown. We had to patch some blokes up and fling some blokes around the team - we had a couple of backs carrying knocks and didn't have any backs on the bench, so for them to get through it was pleasing."
