    Rowing is an exciting sport that will benefit you physically and socially. Every stroke uses 85% of your muscles covering nine major muscle groups so it helps tone your arms fast. If you love being on the water then it could be your new favourite pastime. Alternatively, most gyms have rowing machines.     The GB Rowing Team were off to a winning start placing top of the medal table at the previous regatta in Varese, Italy in June. Olivia Bates won bronze in the lightweight women’s single sculls and will go for gold at the final in Switzerland.

    Ollie Wynne-Griffith and Tom George struck gold in the men’s pair in Italy and will attempt the same this weekend.

    Team GB’s women’s four crew is also comprised of double Olympic champion Helen Glover alongside Heidi Long, Samantha Redgrave and Rebecca Shorten – they beat Olympic champions Australia by 2.38 seconds in the previous regatta.

    The World Rowing Cup is an international competition comprised of three regattas which take place annually in the early summer. The event has been running since 1997 and has only ever been held outside of Europe thrice, once in Princeton, Australia in 2001 and twice in Sydney in 2013 and 2014.

    In each event, points are awarded to the top seven finishing boats with the champion being determined after the last regatta which this year will be on 7 to 9 July in Lucerne, Switzerland.

    The points system is as follows:

    ·1st = 8 points

    ·2nd = 6 points

    ·3rd = 5 points

    ·4th = 4 points

    ·5th = 3 points

    ·6th = 2 points

    ·7th = 1 point
