The World Rowing Cup is an annual series of three regattas that act as a lead-up to the World Rowing Championships, which this year will be held in Racice, Cech Republic in September.

Belgrade, in Serbia, hosts the opening World Cup regatta this weekend before meetings in Poznan, Poland (17-19 June) and Lucerne, Switzerland (8-10 July).

Each regatta is held over three days with racing moving from heats through to finals in each rowing class.

Alongside the battle for podium places, each Olympic boat class also earns points depending on their finishing order. These points then add up towards the overall World Cup-winning nation.

There are 17 medal events on Sunday and Britain will have 18 boats in 13 finals as a new Olympic cycle begins.

Team GB had success with the men鈥檚 eight in Tokyo, winning Olympic bronze, but after being broken up the new-look crew has made it into the final in Belgrade.

GB has also made it to the final of the men's fours, double sculls, pairs and single sculls, while there will be British boats going in the women's single sculls, pairs, double sculls, lightweight double sculls, quadruple sculls and fours.

The Paralympic boats came to the World Cup off the back of a very successful weekend at Gavirate, claiming five gold, three silvers and a bronze, which in turn earned them the champions' trophy.

Lauren Rowles has already won gold for GB in the PR2 single sculls and there will be British involvement in the finals of the PR1 men's sculls and PR3 mixed coxed fours.

2019 Boat Races: Could Jason Bell & Sam Quek hack it as a racer?

A whole generation of Brits grew up watching our rowers dominate the Olympics, with Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent leading the medal tallies.

Whether you wish to emulate the success of the GB rowing team, or just burn a few calories out, rowing is an easy to enjoy sport for all.

There is a wide range of ways for people of all abilities to take part, including personal challenges, indoor rowing, ocean crossings, regattas and international competitions.

Most people are familiar with sliding-seat racing as the discipline included in the Olympic Games. The boats generally have one, two, four or eight seats and some have a coxswain to steer and direct the crew from the back.

Rowing in a small group requires precise co-ordination and excellent communication skills, so not only will you get fit, but also make some good friends in the process.
