  1. 'Mission impossible?'published at 16:08 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Essex v Somerset 54-1 (target 466)

    Anthony Gibson
    ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Somerset

Somerset went into tea on this baking hot day needing another 412 in a minimum of 126 overs.

Mission impossible? Not necessarily, given the relative ease with which they've negotiated their first 23 overs, losing only Sean Dickson to an over-ambitious pull shot.

But Simon Harmer has been probing away menacingly, getting both turn and bounce from the footmarks outside the left-handed Tom Lammonby's off stump.

Somerset 's batters will need plenty of both skill and luck to have kept their hopes alive come the close of play.

  2. Yorkshire need 212 to winpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Derbyshire v Yorkshire 0-0 (target 212)

Zak Chapell will replace Suranga Lakmal as a concussion substitute but he won't bat meaning the Derbyshire innings finishes on 453.

212 for victory for Yorkshire. Where's your money? Thumbs up for Derbyshire, thumbs down for Yorkshire.

  3. Tea at Southportpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Lancs 374 v Hants 142 & 320-7

After the excellent start to Hampshire's second innings - 158-1 - George Balderson produced three quick wickets.

Since then the visitors haven't since been able to put together a stand rigid enough to trouble Lancashire.

Their lead is only 88 and they desperately need the bowlers to hang around long enough for James Vince, 68 not out, to at least get the target to 150.

  4. Tea at Canterburypublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 88-1 (target 501)

A wicketless afternoon session - which will delight Surrey and frustrate Kent in equal measure.

A first league loss of the season seemed likely for the leaders but Dom Sibley (27no) and Tom Latham (56no) are very much putting that back into some semblance of doubt.

With four sessions to go, a definitive result looks almost certain - but are Surrey beginning to think they can pull off a mammoth run chase? While these two remain at the crease, anything is possible.

  5. Concussion sub for Derbyshire?published at 15:48 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Derbyshire 111 & 453-9 v Yorkshire 353

Derbyshire last man Suranga Lakmal is struck on the helmet by Matt Fisher and after some treatment has to retire hurt.

They'll take tea and we may well see a concussion sub in the evening session. Derbyshire lead by 211.

  6. Tea at Chelmsfordpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Essex v Somerset 54-1 (target 466)

Somerset will be mightily pleased with the afternoon session at Canterbury.

Yes, they lost Sean Dickson to a misjudged shot but, that apart, it's been a fine start to their second innings following Essex's declaration.

The hosts remain firm favourites but every outcome is in play here.

  7. 50 runs

for Surrey's Lathampublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 81-1 (target 501)

And what happens next ball after the drop? Of course, classic cricket karma as Tom Latham capitalises on being put down at slip by flicking one away for four - and bringing up his half-century in the process.

  8. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 77-1 (target 501)

That's a big chance gone begging for Kent.

Hamidullah Qadri has provided something different with his spin and Tom Latham gets a careless nick on one - but Ben Compton juggles and spills what looked a fairly routine slip cordon catch.

  9. Postpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Essex v Somerset 47-1 (target 466)

Tom Lammonby with a lesser-seen, in red-ball cricket anyway, reverse sweep - dispatches Simon Harmer to long leg for four.

This has been a lovely, patient knock from the Somerset opener, working hard for his 24 off 63 balls.

  10. Postpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 72-1 (target 501)

How long before Kent begin to get a bit nervous?

A target of 501 would be unchaseable for most teams - but the Division One leaders, with their impressive and deep batting line-up, aren't most teams.

The Sibley/Latham partnership is already up to 68 - and with four sessions still to play, do Surrey actually have a chance of rescuing a win out of the fire?

Thumbs up if you think they have a sniff, thumbs down for no chance.

  11. wicket

WICKET Barker c Mitchell b Bailey 18published at 15:27 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Lancs 374 v Hants 142 & 294-7

Keith Barker had batted for over an hour with James Vince, who's on 62, but now he's gone.

He drives loosely at Tom Bailey just outside off and nicks an easy catch to first slip.

    Hampshire lead by only 62.

  12. wicket

WICKET Slater c Yates b Briggs 30published at 15:25 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Notts 155 & 86-3 f/o v Warks 571-9d

No-one can properly get stuck in here for Notts.

Ben Slater now falls when set.

He goes back to force Danny Briggs off the back foot, gets there way too soon and pops a catch up to midwicket.

A very tame end and Notts now struggling in this follow-on, still 330 behind with 30 minutes to tea.

  13. wicket

    Dickson c Khushi b Porter 18published at 15:21 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Essex v Somerset 32-1 (target 466)

    Breakthrough.

Not one Sean Dickson will look back on with fondness as he gets his timing all wrong from Jamie Porter's short ball and dollies up a catch high in the air that Feroze Khushi takes with ease.

  14. Latham survives another lbw shoutpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 48-1 (target 501)

A second lbw appeal against Surrey's Tom Latham, this time from Wes Agar, but again nothing doing.

The Surrey batters need to guard against being too negative here - 39 of the past 42 deliveries have been dot balls - but in the circumstances caution is clearty the order of the day.

  15. Postpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Essex v Somerset 32-0 (target 466)

Almost success for Simon Harmer as he gets Tom Lammonby to prod at one, only for the ball to fall just shy of the short-leg fielder.

  16. Durham post huge scorepublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Durham 630 v Glamorgan 390

    Martin Emmerson
    ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Newcastle

Durham were eventually out out for 630 in the Chester-le-Street sunshine, with Bas de Leede making 85 not out.

He was one of three batters to make at least 50, while Ollie Robinson and David Bedingham both scored hundreds.

It was their highest total against Glamorgan by 109 runs and their fifth highest score in first-class cricket. On this ground it's their third best.

The heavy roller is now being used and if what we have seen so far is anything to go by, there's still plenty more runs to be made in this game. We'll see!

  17. Postpublished at 15:06 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Essex v Somerset 28-0 (target 466)

Opening pair Tom Lammonby and Sean Dickson batting sensibly, picking off the odd loose delivery for an occasional single or an even rarer boundary.

Simon Harmer has been introduced into the attack in the past few overs as Essex seek a breakthrough.

  18. 'Southport doing a terrific job'published at 15:06 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Lancs 374 v Hants 142 & 285-6

    Kevan James
Former Middlesex & Hampshire cricketer on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Solent

Hampshire are batting much better second time around but starting from so far back, it was always going to be difficult to post a score that even gives them a remote chance of a victory.

Southport and Birkdale sports club do a terrific job of hosting Lancashire and in sweltering temperatures they are once again excelling themselves.

Despite this, Club chairman Tony Elwood does seem to be a little on edge.

Why? This game may finish today and there’s still plenty of beer to sell!

  19. Postpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 47-1 (target 501)

The run of dot balls ends at 20 as Tom Latham cleverly flicks his wrist to divert an Arshdeep Singh delivery to the boundary for four.

  20. Postpublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 13 June 2023

    Kent v Surrey 43-1 (target 501)

We've had 16 dot balls on the trot at Canterbury.

Dom Sibley and Tom Latham showing Kent's India bowler Arshdeep Singh a large dollop of respect.
