A masterful innings from Laura Wolvaardt guided Northern Superchargers to the highest chase in the women's Hundred and a seven-wicket win in an enthralling encounter against Manchester Originals.

Wolvaardt, moved up to open after Jemimah Rodrigues' departure, finished unbeaten on 90 off 49 balls as Superchargers chased 161 with one ball to spare.

They needed 11 from the final five balls but a Deandra Dottin no-ball, followed by a missed run out opportunity, allowed Superchargers to get over the line for their second win.

Earlier Originals made 160-3 with Dottin smashing an incredible 68 off 30 balls, while she was ably supported by Sophie Ecclestone, who made 24 off 17 balls.

Originals have now only won one of their four games, and are all-but eliminated.

    Here's what else happened:

    • Lizelle Lee got Originals off to a flier, making 40 off 27 balls.
    • There was a bizarre run out, with Originals' Ami Campbell switching off and not grounding her bat.
    • Superchargers needed 35 with 15 deliveries remaining but New Zealand's Lea Tahuhu went for 19 runs between the 85-90th balls to give the hosts the upper hand.

    What's next?

Northern Superchargers are next in action on Friday when they travel to Welsh Fire.

While Manchester Originals have a week off before going to Edgbaston to play Birmingham Phoenix next Sunday.

Monday sees Welsh Fire host Southern Brave with both the women's (15:00 BST) and men's (18:30 BST) games available on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Two and ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ iPlayer.

  2. 'I had a swing and it paid off'published at 18:17 British Summer Time 21 August 2022

Match hero Laura Wolvaardt on Sky Sports: "I feel like I hit the ball well in the warm up so I could come in calm and just play my game in that innings. I was just seeing how we were going and then we needed 50 off 20 something so I just had a swing to see how we would go and it paid off.

"Well I can't say for definite [if I'll be an opener] but that helped. I didn't have a great start to my career opening the batting and kind of found my feet at three and four. Sadly, with Jemmy (Rodrigues) being ruled out we had to have a move around a bit and luckily it paid off and we got the win.

"I feel like I wasn't quite timing it through the tournament so far. I'm not sure what changed today but I'm glad it did. I hope I can just stick with it and just be me.

"I feel like the games before this I tried to just whack it way too hard and lost my shapes early on but I knew I had more time today and just needed to pierce the gap early on and just kind of kept going with that until the end."

Crushing for Deandra Dottin, who ends her tournament here. She was explosive with the bat, but her final set couldn't contain the resurgent Superchargers.

Laura Wolvaardt has been elegant. There's been a lot of finesse. She's scored a lot along the ground. It's a good innings but can she make it a great innings and take her team over the line?

There's just a little voice in my head saying "could there be something really special here?". If Wolvaardt does take her team through to victory, it'll be one of the greatest innings.
