Cardiff Devils were beaten 3-2 by Nottingham Panthers in the Challenge Cup.

Tim Doherty and Sam Herr both struck in the opening period to put the hosts in control at the Motorpoint Arena.

Herr notched his second goal of the night in the second period - with ex-Panther Brett Perlini responding to give the visitors some faint hope.

Cole Sanford set up a tense finish with Cardiff's second goal in the 13th minute of the third period, but the home side held on to clinch victory.

Devils return to action against Dundee Stars at Vindico Arena in the Elite League on Sunday (18:00 BST). Panthers host Stars in Nottingham on Saturday (19:00 BST).
