Armagh's 2002 All-Ireland winner Justin McNulty is set to be appointed as Laois football manager for a second time.

During his previous stint in charge between 2011 and 2013, McNulty guided Laois to promotion to Division One and an All-Ireland quarter-finals spot.

A Laois GAA statement said McNulty, who is an SDLP MLA in the Northern Ireland Assembly, had been recommended for the position on a three-year term.

"Justin brings a wealth of experience to the role," said the Laois statement.

"Justin will work with the county board and players' leadership group to finalise the coaching team over the coming weeks."

The SDLP told 成人快手 News NI that McNulty had not stepped down from his Stormont role.

Speaking on the 成人快手's The View programme on Thursday night, SDLP MLA Colin McGrath said he was "just hearing the news this evening".

"I don't know if he's going to have [work] one day a week or six days a week or seven days a week" said Mr McGrath.

"There will be discussions with Justin in the days ahead."

Laois have been on the lookout for a new manager since the resignation of Billy Sheehan after two seasons in charge in July.

McNulty's appointment is expected to be ratified next week.
