Coventry City defender Jake Bidwell says they have now "set the standards" after scoring in the 3-0 win over Blackburn that ended their five-game winless run.

Left-back Bidwell put the Sky Blues in front at the Coventry Building Society Arena before the hosts added two more goals in the second half to close out a much-needed victory.

It was City's second Championship win of a slow start to the season and lifted them three points clear of the bottom three.

"Confidence has been low with the results but nothing breeds confidence like winning," Bidwell told ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ CWR.

"We spoke after Saturday's game [a 3-0 defeat by Leeds] and said what we were doing was not getting results so everything needed to go up a level."

Bidwell, restored to the side in place of Jay Dasilva, powerfully headed in his third goal for the club after 11 minutes, before goals from Haji Wright and Brandon Thomas-Asante after the break ended Blackburn's unbeaten start.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins called his team's performance "big" and Bidwell agreed.

"Without the ball, that was probably the best we've been," Bidwell said.

"It has to be a platform to build on now.

"There's things we can obviously do better and improve on but, from an intensity point of view and off the ball, we've set our standards now and we can't drop below them."

With another home game on Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday, Bidwell is hoping a corner has been turned after "a tough couple of weeks results-wise".

"We spoke about these two home games and the chance to build momentum," he said.

"We've shown performances like that can get the crowd involved so we can make this a tough place to come to."
