Cardiff City and Mahlon Romeo have mutually agreed to part ways.

The right-back, 28, was accused of making homophobic comments towards a police officer when he was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

Romeo later pleaded guilty to drink driving and abusing a police officer.

In June, Romeo said he "deeply" regretted his actions and wanted to "re-iterate his apologies to anybody who has been offended" by the comments he made on 8 February, 2024.

The Bluebirds confirmed they had dealt with the matter internally.

Confiming his departure, a club statement read: "Cardiff City and Mahlon Romeo have agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent to allow the player to seek other opportunities.

"Mahlon was signed by Steve Morison in the summer of 2022, made 51 appearances for the Bluebirds across two seasons, and departs now seeking first team chances.

"We wish Mahlon well for the future."

Romeo joined Cardiff from Millwall in 2022 and has also had stints with Gillingham, Dover Athletic and Portsmouth.
