AFC Wimbledon have signed Hull City full-back James Furlong on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old Irishman has played once for the Tigers' first team - starting last season's FA Cup third round replay defeat by Birmingham City in January.

A knee injury suffered in that game has kept him out of competitive action since.

The bulk of Furlong's first-team experience has come during a loan spell with Scottish Premiership side Motherwell during the second half of the 2022-23 season.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 left-back began his career in his homeland before moving to Brighton's academy.

After a handful of appearances for the Seagulls' under-21 side, Furlong made his senior debut in an EFL Cup tie at Forest Green Rovers in August 2022.

"I want to play as many games as possible, push on as a player and of course I want to help the club get back to League One as soon as possible," Furlong said.

"I met with the manager [Johnnie Jackson] and all I heard was positive things - he really sold the loan move to me. As soon as I heard of the interest, I just wanted to get started straight away."

Furlong is the club's eighth signing of the summer transfer window.
