Wales manager Robert Page has suggested Rubin Colwill could follow Harry Wilson鈥檚 example by shining on the senior international stage having had a spell back playing at under-21 level.

Attacking midfielder Colwill, 22, was a shock inclusion in Wales鈥 European Championship squad three years ago.

He scored his first senior Wales goal in March 2022 and went to the World Cup later that year, featuring as a substitute in the group game against England.

But the Cardiff City player switched to the Wales Under-21 squad last summer and also featured for Matty Jones鈥 team earlier this year.

Page says Colwill 鈥渃ould step up again鈥 to the senior side for friendlies against Gibraltar on 6 June and Slovakia three days later.

鈥淲e did the same when Ryan Giggs was manager and I was with the under-21s,鈥 Page told 成人快手 Sport Wales.

鈥淩yan asked for Harry Wilson to step down and he did. He was a model professional, how he trained, all the young ones looked up to him and it was really beneficial for him.鈥

Fulham鈥檚 Wilson, now 27, has matured into one of Wales鈥 key attacking players.

鈥淗e only lasted one camp [with the under-21s] and he was back up with the first team,鈥 Page added.

鈥淲e have done the same with Rubin, albeit he has had a couple more camps than Harry had. It will help him. He is still part of the process and at the right time we will bring him back up.鈥

Colwill scored three goals in 40 appearances for Cardiff in 2023-24.

Though Colwill was not a fixture in Cardiff鈥檚 starting side, manager Erol Bulut said earlier this month the academy product had taken a 鈥渂ig, big step forward鈥 during the course of the season and that Premier League clubs were monitoring his progress.
