Burnley have appointed Salford City director of football Chris Casper as their academy manager.

Casper departs after eight years with the Ammies, during which he oversaw their academy and development system.

The 49-year-old, who was born in Burnley and is the son of club legend Frank Casper, was part of Manchester United's famed 'Class of '92' academy and went on to manage Bury after his retirement from playing.

His 19-year-old son, goalkeeper Charlie, is also on Burnley's books.

"It's a privilege to be here - it's my hometown club, I grew up in the town and to be part of the club now is absolutely fantastic," he

"It's maybe fate to follow in the footsteps of my dad and my son as well. It feels surreal to be here but it's genuinely a dream come true.鈥

Casper oversaw a youth setup with Salford which has seen 46 players graduate from their development system towards making a first-team appearance, the League Two club said.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working at Salford with some wonderful people - I would also like to thank the supporters who have been brilliant in my time at the club," he added.

"In particular I would like to thank the owners for their support and their trust throughout my time here, and I am grateful to them to have allowed me this opportunity."
