Luton Town and Sunderland have been charged by the Football Association following a confrontation between players after last week's Championship game.

The incident occurred at full-time at Kenilworth Road after leaders Sunderland had won the game 2-1.

The clubs have been charged with failing to ensure players and technical area staff "didn't behave in an improper and/or provocative way".

They have until 29 October to provide written responses to the charge.

All three goals came in an 11-minute spell during the game, with Chris Rigg and Romaine Mundle scoring for Sunderland, either side of an equaliser for Luton by Elijah Adebayo.

The Hatters striker was later sent a racially abusive message via Instagram, which his club condemned as "abhorrent and unacceptable".
