Bristol City head coach Liam Manning has praised Anis Mehmeti's drive after the forward's virtuoso display in the Robins' Championship win over Plymouth Argyle.

The Robins thrashed struggling Argyle - managed by former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney - 4-0 at Ashton Gate on Saturday with Mehmeti contributing two goals as well as setting up Scott Twine's opener.

"I'm really pleased for him," Manning told ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Bristol about the Albania international, who now has six league goals this season.

"He loves the game and he's so driven.

"What I love about him is you can be tough on him, you can be quite honest with what you're seeing and what you're asking him to do and he then does his best to try and make it happen.

"I'm delighted he got the goals."

Bristol City sit 11th in the Championship on 25 points, just five points off the play-off places.

The club has never played in the Premier League, with their most recent season in the domestic top-flight being in the old First Division in 1979-80.

Manning says goals from a "variety" of players in the Robins' squad will be pivotal to ending the club's 44-year top-flight absence.

"We need everyone to turn up and contribute and chip in," Manning added. "He (Mehmeti) was a good example of that.

"We need people to turn up and deliver in high pressure moments, he did that."

The Robins' next match is a visit to bottom side Portsmouth on Saturday.
