Exeter City defender Will Aimson says he has worked hard to regain his place in the side after a loss of form.

Aimson, 30, has reclaimed his place in the starting XI in the past month after injuries and a drop in form saw the former Bolton and Plymouth centre-back have a spell on the sidelines.

"I've just had to be patient and work hard and wait for my chance," he told 成人快手 Radio Devon.

"Next is taking it, I feel like I've done that and long may it continue."

Aimson scored his first goal since August in Tuesday's 3-1 win at Shrewsbury Town which helped 16th-placed Exeter move 10 points clear of the League One relegation places.

The experienced defender also hopes he can put criticism he got from some sections of the Exeter fanbase behind him, especially during the club's 13-game winless league run from October to December.

"It's part of the game, I've had it at other clubs - the highs are high and the lows are low in football," Aimson said.

"I just stayed at a level where for me personally when everything was going great I didn't get too high and when everything was going terribly I didn't get too low - I think that's the best thing to do.

"When things aren't going well people are going to say things.

"I don't really see it to be honest, I'm not on any social media so the only time I'm going to hear it is on a Saturday and that's if i do hear it, I'm in a game of football and not really listening to that.

"For me it didn't really affect me too much, it's easy for your mates or people who are on social media to see all that, but I'm not on any of it so it doesn't really bother me, I'm just cracking on with my job and my job is to win football matches."
