York City have parted company with Neal Ardley just under six months into his spell as manager.

The 51-year-old, who signed a three-year deal in September, won only 10 of his 34 games and leaves with York just a point above the bottom four.

Ardley, who has managed AFC Wimbledon, Notts County and Solihull Moors, failed to win any of his last four matches, latterly losing at Barnet on Saturday.

Assistant manager Tony McMahon will take interim charge of the team.

"We'd like to thank Neal for his contribution to this incredible club both on the pitch and behind the scenes," co-chairs Matt and Julie-Anne Uggla said.

"We wish him well for the future. We now look forward to the next chapter for York City. We are working hard to be able to update the fans on the new appointment."

Former boss Michael Morton left after a 4-1 defeat by Ebbsfleet, with York second bottom after seven games.

The Minstermen had turned to Ardley for the role after his success in previous jobs - he took AFC Wimbledon to League One and guided both Notts County and Solihull Moors to National League promotion finals.

However, the Epsom-born former Wimbledon and Watford defender was unable to replicate those successes at York.

York play Wealdstone at home on Saturday in the National League.
