Lionel Scaloni: 2022 World Cup-winning manager to remain in charge of Argentina
World Cup-winning manager Lionel Scaloni has confirmed he will remain in charge of Argentina.
Scaloni had said in November following their 1-0 win over Brazil in 2026 World Cup qualifying that he was considering resigning.
But the 45-year-old Argentine has now said he will stay in charge of the world champions.
"There was a lot of talking, but I always told the truth," Scaloni said in an interview with Italian television.
"There were moments to think and know what to do. It was not a farewell or anything.
"I was thinking about how the national team goes on and the moment also to allow space for the youngsters, and this is important for us. It was a moment of reflection."
Former West Ham defender Scaloni took over as Argentina coach in 2018 and led them to the Copa America title in 2021.
He then led the South Americans to their first World Cup title since 1986 at Qatar 2022 when they beat France on penalties in the final.
Scaloni has a contract until after the 2026 World Cup, having signed an extension in February last year.
