League Two strugglers Salford City have appointed former Oxford and MK Dons boss Karl Robinson as their head coach.

The 43-year-old replaces Neil Wood, who was sacked on 27 December after eight league games without a win.

It is Robinson's first managerial role since leaving Oxford in February, while his most recent job was as assistant manager under Sam Allardyce at Leeds, in May.

He joins the club with the Ammies currently sitting 21st in the table.

Salford chief executive Nicky Butt told the : "Throughout the interview and appointment process he impressed us with his wealth of knowledge and ability.

"Salford City's ambition is to play as high up in the Football League as possible so when we entered the recruitment process we felt it was important for us to appoint someone with experience of managing at a higher level, and Karl's long-term vision for the club, drive and determination excited us."

Robinson started his managerial career at MK Dons, guiding the Buckinghamshire club to the Championship in the 2014-15 season.

Following a spell at Charlton, he then spent almost five years with Oxford, taking the U's to the League One play-off final in 2020 where they were beaten by Wycombe.
