Shrewsbury Town have appointed Liam Dooley as the League One club's new chief executive.

Dooley moves after four years with Sheffield Wednesday, having been chief operating officer since 2021.

Dooley replaces Brian Caldwell, who left in May, and completes the club's review of "all areas of the non-football side of the business".

Long-serving Town chairman Roland Wycherley said Dooley would bring a "wealth of experience" to Shrewsbury.

"In May, strategies were taken to protect the club and its immediate future," he said.

"But I feel the time is right for the club to once again operate with a CEO and I have no doubt Liam is the right man to drive us forward."

Caldwell's departure was followed by that of manager Steve Cotterill in June, when Matt Taylor became head coach, after the appointment of Micky Moore as the club's first director of football.

They have won four times in 12 games this season and are 18th in League One.

"Shrewsbury Town is such a valuable part of the community," said Dooley. "I am keen to expand those links and develop the club on and off the pitch.

"I'm passionate about communication. I'm looking forward to working with supporters groups, partners, fans and the media as we continue to move the club forward."
