Raith Rovers 2-2 Arbroath: Hosts' collapse helps hand Hearts the title

  • Published

Arbroath's late comeback for a point in Kirkcaldy stopped Raith Rovers getting the win required to make Hearts wait for the Scottish Championship title.

The hosts were comfortable after 70 minutes thanks to Dan Armstrong's double - his fifth and sixth goals of the season.

But Jack Hamilton's fine strike into the top corner made for a nervy finish.

Ricky Little struck the crucial blow when he sidefooted the ball through a tuck of players with 10 minutes left.

It earned a crucial point for Arbroath, who move eight points clear of Alloa Athletic in the automatic relegation spot with only three games left.

Raith go to Dumfries to face Queen of the South on Tuesday as they seek to consolidate second place.

Raith manager John McGlynn: "First half we were very good and dominated. Second half we didn't play well. Arbroath got a huge lift from scoring so quickly after we got our second, and their tails were up.

"Congratulations to Robbie Neilson and his Hearts team. It's probably what most of us expected and they've done it, so well done to them."

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell: "Ricky Little stays in Ardrossan and travels up to Perth for training. I can count on one hand how many times he's missed training in the six years I've been here.

"I gave him a night off about four weeks ago but he turned up, saying 'Gaffer, I've got all my life to take a night off'. That's his attitude."
