Goals from Josh Davison and Jamille Matt moved Forest Green to within a point of League Two leaders Cambridge.

Davison scored his second goal since joining on loan from Charlton in January three minutes before the break after Matt's long through pass.

Former Newport striker Matt doubled Rovers' lead with a second-half penalty after he was fouled by goalkeeper Nick Townsend.

County, who have just one win in 13 games, failed to threaten throughout.

Both teams struggled to keep possession on a sand-covered Rodney Parade pitch, in a game that took place 24 hours later than originally scheduled in order for the surface to recover from bad weather and a Dragons rugby match on Friday.

It was a third successive win for Mark Cooper's Forest Green, who have two games in hand over rivals Cambridge.

Newport County manager Mike Flynn told 成人快手 Sport Wales: "Forest Green were excellent in the way they didn't make any mistakes today.

"I said before the game it would be tough to create chances and it was today, they've had two chances from our mistakes and I think they'll win the league.

"That was the worst football pitch I've ever been involved with, but we didn't lose because of the pitch, we lost because we made two mistakes."
