Arbroath's Thomas O'Brien celebrates making it 1-0

Arbroath extended their unbeaten run in the Scottish Championship to five matches with victory over promotion hopefuls Dunfermline Athletic.

Goals from captain Thomas O'Brien and Dale Hilson earned Dick Campbell's side an upset win.

In testing conditions at a rain-drenched Gayfield Park, the hosts hit a post in a dominant first half.

Dunfermline could not make any headway and have now won just once in six matches, dropping to third.

The win moves Arbroath out of the bottom two spots and up to eighth.

Dunfermline head coach Stevie Crawford: "The referee had us in before the match, asking about the weather, and he mentioned the word "farcical".

"I did feel it was at the farcical stage and the referee has seen it in a different way. I felt they were in danger on the pitch from the way the wind was affecting the game."

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell: "I'm absolutely delighted with that. I'm used to it here - what a surprise there's a big wind at Arbroath - I didn't think it was any worse than it was on Wednesday.

"But my tactics were old-fashioned shoot-on-sight. Every single player deserves every bit of success they got today."
