Carlisle United have now had two fixtures called off in the past two weeks due to weather after their fixture at Newport was postponed because of rain at Rodney Parade on 26 January

Barrow's League Two game with Exeter City was called off an hour before kick-off because of a frozen pitch.

The Bluebirds brought their kick-off forward to 18:30 GMT to try to beat the freezing conditions in Cumbria and held inspections throughout the day.

However, the surface was deemed unplayable after a final inspection.

Earlier, Carlisle's game against Leyton Orient was also called off because of a frozen pitch after an early inspection was held for the 14:30 GMT kick-off.

New scheduling for the two games will be confirmed at a later date.

Both sides had hoped that bringing their games forward would help them beat the freezing temperatures.

Barrow had covered their pitch and brought in heaters to try to ensure that the surface at the Progression Solicitors Stadium remained playable.

But although it passed an initial inspection at 16:00 GMT, the Bluebirds said that as the temperature dropped, concerns rose about the safety of some areas of the playing surface, resulting in the call-off and a wasted 660-mile round trip for the Grecians.

In the National League, three fixtures due to take place on Tuesday have been called off due to the weather.

Barnet v FC Halifax Town, Sutton United v Woking and Weymouth v Boreham Wood were all called off after an inspection of conditions at the three grounds, with Dover v Maidenhead also postponed on Monday after heavy snow in Kent.

Yellow weather warnings are in place as cold weather and heavy snow plagues much of the UK.
