Managerless Morton win at Dunfermline

  • Published

Goals from Jim McAlister and Craig McGuffie earned managerless Morton a surprise 2-1 win at Dunfermline.

McAlister volleyed the visitors into a 24th-minute lead as the hosts failed to deal with a long throw-in.

Dunfermline, who stay second in the Championship, levelled through a Declan McManus penalty after an Aidan Nesbitt handball with 15 minutes remaining.

But Morton soon reclaimed the lead when McGuffie followed up after Owain Fon Williams had saved from Lewis Strapp.

The Greenock side will feel justice was done since an effort from Kalvin Orsi appeared to cross the line before the Pars levelled.

Dunfermline Athletic manager Stevie Crawford: "We weren't aggressive in the first half and that improved after half-time but the quality into the box wasn't up to the standards we have set this year.

"We didn't cause Morton enough problems from wide areas.

"Now we hit the re-set button and we have a quarter-final to look forward to."

Morton caretaker boss Anton McElhone: "That was a thank you to David Hopkin, who has left a great squad behind.

"Coming to a team that's second in the league, you know you're going to be under the cosh and I thought we rode it out really well."
