Wrexham players celebrate Luke Young's second half goal

Wrexham ended a momentous week in the club's history with victory over Aldershot Town.

Luke Young's superb 20-yard effort secured a second successive victory, their first back-to-back wins since January.

The triumph came at the end of a week in which Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney were backed as the club's new owners.

They move above Aldershot into 11th in the table, a point off the play-offs.

Jordan Ponticelli and Young had good chances for the hosts within the opening six minutes while Aldershot offered little.

Young's free-kick forced Brad James into a save at the end of a forgettable first half.

Aldershot put Wrexham under pressure early in the second half and Rob Lainton denied Harry Panayiotou and Mohamed Bettamer

Young scored his second goal of the season with a low drive to give his side the lead while at the other end Bettamer flashed an effort wide of the post.

Wrexham manager Dean Keates said:

"We knew Aldershot play on the front foot, they make you defend and the front four play close together. The lads stood up to it and showed great character defensively.

"But we played our game as well. Disappointed we didn't go 1-0 up in the first three minutes but it was a great save from their keeper. Great finish from Youngy, we know he's got that it his locker.

"In my opinion we deserved the three points. It's not free flowing but it's effective at the moment on the back end of the confidence dip we had. We've shown resilience and we're grinding results out."
