Raith Rovers moved top of the Scottish Championship on goal difference with a resounding home win against 10-man Greenock Morton.

Daniel Armstrong put the hosts in front with a penalty after he had been fouled by Brian McLean and Frankie Musonda quickly headed their second.

Jim McAllister was sent off for his challenge on Armstrong and Raith's Ross Matthews struck twice after the break.

Fernandy Mendy completed the scoring from close range late on.

Rovers are five points better off Dunfermline Athletic and a point above Hearts, who have a game in hand.

Raith Rovers assistant manager Paul Smith: "I can't praise the players enough for their second-half performance. We got a couple of good goals and just built it up from there.

"To have 10 points out of 12 is fantastic. "It's very, very early. We won't get carried away. We're absolutely with the start we've made. We're playing very good football just now."

Greenock Morton manager David Hopkin: "We didn't start the game well. It was a soft penalty. From where I was it didn't even look as if it was in the box. With Jim getting sent off, we knew it was going to be an uphill struggle. The game's done before half-time.

"Jim was bemused when he got a red card. Once I see it on Monday, we'll see what we can do about it. Second half, we concede within two or three minutes. Four goals were avoidable."
