Two goals from captain Euan Murray secured a deserved victory that lifts Dunfermline Athletic above visitors Falkirk in Scottish League Cup Group E.

The defender rose twice after the break to head home Dom Thomas crosses and secure a second win in two group games.

A fine Robbie Mutch save denied Thomas, while Kevin O'Hara missed good chances for the Championship hosts.

Falkirk also had a claim for a penalty denied and Kevin Keena should have scored before the opening goal.

But the League One side, who were handed a 3-0 win in their opening game after Kilmarnock failed to fulfil the fixture because of Covid-19 withdrawals, slip behind Dunfermline at the top of the table.

Dunfermline visit Premiership side Kilmarnock on Tuesday, while Falkirk host League One rivals Clyde.

What they said

Dunfermline Athletic manager Stevie Crawford: "I felt we started well and there were goals in us, but there was a 15-minute spell where Falkirk were causing us problems and we addressed it at half-time. I didn't see the penalty incident, but I'm just happy with another clean sheet and two goals."

Falkirk co-manager Lee Miller: "It was a stonewall penalty - I think the reaction of the players tell a story and I've been told his hands are in an unnatural position. I thought we were the better team in the first half and created plenty of chances but just never scored when were on top in the game and second half we were a little off the pace."
