Chesterfield 1-0 Braintree Town

  • Published

Chesterfield continued their impressive start to life in the National League with a home victory over Braintree.

Curtis Weston struck the match winner as the Spireites, who finished bottom of the Football League last season, made it three wins from three, while they have yet to concede a goal.

Weston made the breakthrough at the Proact Stadium when he latched onto a Marc-Antoine Fortune pass and drilled into the corner of the net.

Fortune had earlier seen Braintree keeper Ben Killip keep out his low effort, while team-mate Gozie Ugwu was unable to make the most of his first-half opportunities.

Arguably Braintree's best opening fell to Danny Rowe before the break, but after being sent clean through on goal, he was superbly denied by home goalkeeper Shwan Jalal.
