FA Cup: Shrewsbury Town 2-0 Morecambe highlights

Shrewsbury Town booked their place in the third round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 2-0 home win against League Two strugglers Morecambe.

Alex Rodman and a Shaun Whalley penalty in five first-half minutes were enough for League One promotion hopefuls Shrewsbury to win the second-round tie.

Winger Rodman went close to opening the scoring in only the second minute after he cut inside and saw his low shot come back off the near post.

Shrewsbury were on top and had to remain patient to break down the stubborn Morecambe defence but Rodman made the breakthrough when he turned in Whalley's inviting cross in the 32nd minute.

Whalley then doubled Town's advantage five minutes later, converting his spot-kick after goalkeeper Barry Roche brought down Jon Nolan.

Roche saved well from Louis Dodds as Shrewsbury went in search of a third in the second half, while Garry Thompson tested home goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray from distance at the other end.

Morecambe substitute Callum Lang had a late chance to give the visitors hope but he was unable to find away past MacGillivray, who pulled off a smart save.
