Qiu's perfect 10's deny Daley World medal

Tom Daley relinquished his 10m individual diving platform title to China's Qiu Bo at the World Championships in Shanghai on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Daley finished fifth overall and fellow Briton Pete Waterfield, 30, took 11th place.

USA diver David Boudia won silver and Sascha Klein of Germany won bronze.

Qiu started with three perfect 10s and finished with 585.45 points to ensure that host nation China claimed gold in all 10 diving events.

Plymouth diver Daley, who won the world title in 2009 at the age of 15, was fifth going into his final dive and put in a terrific effort at the last, but was unable to move into the medal placings.

However, Daley said he was content with his performance at Crescent Lagoon.

"I did two good dives and I am very satisfied," Daley said. "There is a big gap between me and Qiu Bo.

"The Chinese are fantastic. But you can see that everything can happen, and you can see the Chinese made mistakes in today's competition."

Daley finished with 505.10 points and though he missed out on the medals, by reaching Sunday's final he

"I am really excited for the Olympics, because it will be held in our country," Daley added.

"My dream is to win a gold medal there."
