  1. wicket

WICKET: Gilchrist c Pepper b Critchley 41published at 14:56 British Summer Time 14 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 380-8

A great knock from Nathan Gilchrist comes to an end.

He hit four fours and two sixes, putting on 68 for the eighth wicket with Ben Compton.

    Matt Critchley now was 4-96.

Kent have now avoided the follow-on.

  2. Third batting point for Durhampublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 357-6

    Martin Emmerson
    ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Newcastle

A third batting point has arrived for Durham. On the face of it 356-6 doesn't look too bad a score, but not when you are still 341 behind!

But all they can do is keep plugging away with the bat and eat up overs at the same time. The target to avoid the follow-on is 549, so that remains some distance away.

For their part, Warwickshire will be hoping to have the visitors batting again at some point this afternoon.

One wicket has fallen since lunch. Ed Barnard came into the attack and bounced Brydon Carse. Carse decided to take him on, rather than err on the side of caution, but hooked the ball straight into the hands of Danny Briggs at fine leg and was out for 12.

Not the sort of shot needed in the circumstances.

Graham Clark has 47 and Ben Raine 15.

  3. 150 for Ben Comptonpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 14 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 380-7

    Well batted Ben Compton.

He has played with style and never looked rushed or ruffled by what has been going on around him.

His 150 came from 344 balls and included 17 fours.

  4. Six for Root but Masood goespublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 14 April

    Gloucs 263 v Yorkshire 326 & 272-3

Joe Root sweeps Ollie Price for a maximum to move into the 40s, but in the next over Yorkshire captain Shan Masood perishes.

The Pakistan batter dances down the wicket to Graeme van Buuren, misses the ball down the leg-side and James Bracey whips off the bails.

He departs for 40 with his side leading by 335.

In comes Root's England team-mate Harry Brook at five.

  5. wicket

WICKET: Hurst c Vince b Dawson 11published at 14:49 British Summer Time 14 April

    Hampshire 367 v Lancashire 403-6

James Vince clings on at slip - at the second attempt - off the bowling of Liam Dawson and Matty Hurst is gone for 11.

    Lancashire's lead is 36.

  6. 100 for Max Holdenpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 14 April

    Northants 552-6 dec v Middlesex 281-2

Max Holden celebrates scoring a centuryImage source, Rex Features

The runs continue to flow at Wantage Road as Middlesex number three Max Holden reaches his fourth first-class hundred.

Only eight wickets have fallen in two and a half days - tough toil for the bowlers.

  7. 'Somerset will be hoping for a lot of rain'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 14 April

    Surrey 428 v Somerset 285 & 54-2

    Roland Butcher
Former Middlesex and England batter on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio London

From a Somerset perspective they'll be hoping for a lot of rain, not just a little. A lot will make it safer for them

No progress but it doesn't really matter. What's important is that these batters stay at the crease, don't lose anymore wickets because they've lost two already and the very important one of Matt Renshaw.

  8. 'Tremendous effort from Simpson and Lamb'published at 14:49 British Summer Time 14 April

    Leics 338 v Sussex 492-6

    Adrian Harms
    ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Sussex

Tremendous effort from John Simpson and Danny Lamb an unbroken 200 partnership coming in just 44 overs and taking the Sussex lead over 150.

Both have now made their maiden first-class centuries for Sussex and both are looking shrewd winter additions to the squad.

  9. Postpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 350-6

Durham get to 350 and therefore get their third batting bonus point at Edgbaston.

They're only just past halfway to matching Warwickshire's first-innings total.

  10. Postpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 14 April

    Notts 399 & 6-0 v Worcs 355

Nottinghamshire's England Test opener Ben Duckett scored just 35 runs in his first three County Championship innings of the season.

He gets off the mark with a single down to fine leg.

  11. Postpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 14 April

    Notts 399 & 4-0 v Worcs 355

Nottinghamshire openers Haseeb Hameed and Ben Duckett are out in the middle to start their side's second innings at Trent Bridge.

Hameed cuts Joe Leach's third ball to the fence for four.

  12. Postpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 14 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 372-7

It's undoubtedly been Essex's day so far but Kent are showing plenty of fight right now.

    Nathan Gilchrist in particular.

He's just hit Simon Harmer for a six and two fours in an over that went for 15 runs.

He's up to 37 which is his best score in any form of cricket.

  13. Postpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 14 April

    Hampshire 367 v Lancashire 394-5

New Lancashire batter Matty Hurst almost picks out the fielder at short cover off Liam Dawson in successive balls - thankfully for the youngster, they both land just short.

George Bell is still there at the other end on 76 and he's closing in on a new highest first-class score. His current personal best is 91, which came against Middlesex last September.

  14. 50 stand between Root & Masoodpublished at 14:37 British Summer Time 14 April

    Gloucs 263 v Yorkshire 326 & 255-2

Joe Root pulls Ollie Price to the fence for his third four and brings up the fifty stand with captain Shan Masood.

Root is up to 31 in no time and Yorkshire's lead is an already-imposing 318.

  15. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 335-6

Warwickshire are setting a very funky field for Graham Clark!

They've got four fielders across the midwicket region - almost like a slip cordon in front of the wicket on the leg side, as well as a mid-off standing next to the bowler's follow-through.

Clark responds by dabbing one behind square for a single to move on to 37.

  16. 350 up for Kentpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 14 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 351-7

Nathan Gilchrist plays a sweep shotImage source, Rex Features

Nathan Gilchrist has been busy since joining the action and has struck a few boundaries to help the score along.

Ben Compton is on 142 as he inches his way towards 150.

    Kent trail by 179.

  17. At last a wicket!published at 14:32 British Summer Time 14 April

    Hampshire 367 v Lancashire 388-5

    Kevan James
    ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Solent

It's taken until the 40th over of day three to produce its first wicket, with Keaton Jennings misjudging a reverse sweep.

Yes, the batting of Jennings and George Bell has been high class. But this Kookaburra ball on a docile pitch? Well it's not producing entertaining cricket.

We've still only had 15 wickets in two and a half days!

Should county cricket be a mixture of high-class play and entertainment?

  18. Postpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 14 April

    Notts 399 v Worcs 355

That five-wicket haul for Calvin Harrison was the first of his first-class career.

The leg-spinner got through 36.3 overs for his side in Worcestershire's first innings.

  19. 6 runs

Six for Nathan Gilchristpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 14 April

    Essex 530-7 dec v Kent 347-7

    Great shot by Nathan Gilchrist!

Matt Critchley has batted well, bowled well, but has to take his medicine on this occasion as Gilchrist hoists him over the rope.

It just about had enough on it to get over Shane Snater on the boundary!

  20. 'Warwickshire are still in this'published at 14:29 British Summer Time 14 April

    Warwickshire 698-3 dec v Durham 331-6

    Clive Eakin
    ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ CWR Sport

Warwickshire are still in this, still 14 wickets to get and a long way to go, but if they get more before tea at least then they'll still have hopes of putting some real pressure on Durham.
