Leicestershire fast bowler Alex Green has signed a three-year deal - his first professional contract.

Cambridgeshire-born Green, 17, made his debut against Yorkshire at Scarborough in the One-Day Cup in August, going on to take four wickets in three matches.

The 6 ft 6in paceman's fast-tracking to senior cricket followed a haul of 85 wickets for Leicestershire鈥檚 Under-18s since the start of 2023, which helped to earn him an England Under-19 Test debut against Sri Lanka at Wormsley in July.

鈥淭here鈥檚 a lot of role models at Leicestershire," said Green. "I鈥檝e taken great inspiration from the likes of Sam Wood and Josh Hull.

"Particularly seeing what Hully鈥檚 done with England. It opens my eyes and makes me think it鈥檚 possible for me."

Director of cricket Claude Henderson added: 鈥淲e have been really pleased with Alex鈥檚 progress over the past 12 months.

"Huge credit is owed to the efforts of our Pathway coaches. Alex has all the tools to become a match-winner for Leicestershire."

Leicestershire, last year's One-Day Cup winners, currently lie fifth in Division Two going into Thursday's final County Championship game of the season, at home to Derbyshire.
